Earth-Friendly Brands We Love
From using upcycled materials to reducing their carbon footprint, these brands are as conscious as they are cute. In celebration of Earth Day, we caught up with their founders about their commitment to sustainability and teaching our children how to care for the earth.
Fair Harbor founders Caroline and Jake Danehy
During our summers in Fair Harbor we learned to swim, surf and fish. All we needed was a bathing suit and a bike and we were the happiest kids in the world. It was these simple moments that connected us to our environment and instilled our love for the ocean and nature.
During Jake's junior year at Colgate, he was studying Geography and plastics impact on our environment -- specifically our oceans. During part of his studies, Jake found this polyester directly made from recycled plastic bottles, and with that, we launched Fair Harbor in 2014. Since we started, our mission has been to create a platform to promote the mitigation of single use plastics by creating awesome products that people actually want to wear—so you can enjoy the places you love while protecting them too.
Every day is Earth Day for us. Since the inception of Fair Harbor, we've recycled more than 7.6 million post-consumer plastic bottles into swimwear. We lead cleanups throughout the year to help spread awareness about the impact of our everyday consumption. We also have a swimwear recycling program, where people can send in any swimwear that they have and we'll recycle it for them. In exchange, we'll send them a $5 credit towards a future Fair Harbor purchase. It's a win-win!

Mon Coeur founder Louise Ulukaya
I started Mon Coeur when I had my son Miran and was unable to find children’s clothing for him that didn’t harm the environment, but also looked and felt good. The entire collection is made from 100% up-cycled and recycled fabrics.
Our products are made in Portugal with European sourced fabrics and accessories to limit emissions. We believe that sustainability is not only about the materials but also how the products are made, where they are made and by whom.
Since our launch, Mon Coeur has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment through its collaboration with 1% For the Planet and we have also partnered with 5Gyres to combat plastic pollution.

I believe the time is now and our generation will be the catalyst for positive environmental change. At Wash with Water, we are helping families come together to raise everyday wellness advocates and environmentalists we lovingly called washies. As an eco-friendly brand, sustainability is at the heart of everything in2Green does. Members of the in2green team have been at the forefront of sustainable yarn creation for 20+ years. Each one of our recycled Cotton/Polyester blend throws saves approximately 2,100 gallons of water thanks to skipping the irrigation needed for cropping or dying. Our indoor/outdoor collection of 100% recycled polyester throws are the first throw blankets made out of recycled plastic. That means less trash and pollutants in major bodies of water and the water supply as well as reducing what is sent to landfills.
