The Glass House
Currently offering an outdoor-only experience, the beautiful 49-acre-property surrounding The Philip Johnson Glass House in New Canaan, CT is the perfect place to let the kids explore the great outdoors—with an architecture lesson as a bonus. Ground passes are $20 and must be reserved in advance.
March Farm
Nothing ushers in fall quite as ceremoniously as apple picking, and March Farm in Bethlehem, CT is a perfectly picturesque place to do it. They also have a playscape, petting zoo and corn maze. Fuel up with brunch on the patio at the nearby George Washington Tavern and then spend the whole afternoon.
Storm King Art Center
This 500-acre outdoor art museum in New York's Hudson Valley is so made for the moment, you'll have to think ahead–it's booked weekends through September. But reserve now for October and enjoy exhibitions by Kiki Smith and Martha Tuttle, not to mention peak fall foliage.
Montauk Lighthouse
It's no secret kids love lighthouses, so indulge them with a visit to Montauk. While the tower is currently closed, the museum and grounds are open with views as instagram-ready as ever.
Pochuck Boardwalk on the Appalachian Trail
Hiking from Georgia to Maine would be a bit much, but you and your family can hike this small section of the Appalachian Trail
near Vernon, NJ. Enjoy the scenic two-mile jaunt through wildflowers and wetlands and call it a win.
