Was having a child something you always wanted to do?

Not actively, but I’m glad it became a reality! I was never the person who was dying to have children – I never had the baby bug, so to speak. I had been married for three years when it just seemed like the natural next step. Now, almost 15 years later, I am so glad that I finally caught on!

How did motherhood affect your career path, if at all?

Working and motherhood have gone hand in hand - it’s just one of the facets of my life. For me, it’s important to have something that is outside of the home.

What was the biggest surprise about motherhood?

How much harder it is than I thought it would be! It definitely gave me a new appreciation for my mother.

What is the greatest lesson your mother taught you?

My mother taught me that the key to a good relationship is separate bathrooms.

What’s one thing your mom did that you would never repeat with Mason?

She used to part my hair with a screwdriver - the flat kind.

        Greatest challenge of motherhood?

Resisting the urge to do everything for them.

        Greatest joy?

Watching your child thrive and become their own person.

Mason is now 14 years old – you can actually see the results of your parenting. What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of how thoughtful, kind and grateful Mason is. I'm always hearing from friends that when they see Mason, she is always the first one to give them a huge hug. Or from teachers who say Mason is the first one to go to someone's side in a time of need. It feels good to know your kid is nice even when you're not looking!

What would you have done differently?

Nothing. I love the person she is and look forward to watching her journey into adulthood.

What’s the one thing you did that you think has been the most impactful in shaping who she’s become?

She’s not allowed to chew gum or drink soda.

What are the beauty products you swear by and what purposes do they serve in your routine?

The Lancer Method and Dickenson’s Witch Hazel wipes for keeping my skin in check. And Aquaphor for my lips - I really hate dry lips.

You’re a famous foodie – can you give us a few good recs?

Flour Shop for the best birthday cake.

The Polo Bar for date night.

Cyril Lignac in Paris for the ultimate croissant.

Le Charlot for best mother-daughter lunch date.

When was the last time she made you laugh out loud?

I recently walked into Mason's room and she was listening to Elvis Presley's “Can't Help Falling In Love” (a surprising choice for someone her age) so I asked why she was listening to him and she told me it was a very “catchy tune”!! As my grandmother said, she is actually a 40- year old woman trapped in a teenage body.

What would Mason say is the coolest thing about you?

That my Instagram account is verified. I got some major points for that.

If you had to wear one thing from Mason’s closet, what would it be?

Her jeans. She has such good jeans. They would look terrible on me, but I wish I could wear them. Just not the weird high-waisted ones.

One thing she would love to wear of yours?

Probably my Hermes Plume bag, which is so funny to me. It’s by far the plainest bag I own. She’s very conservative.

One fashion trend you embrace that she wouldn’t be caught dead in?

        Sequins from head to toe.

One song you both have on your playlists?

“Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift.

If you could give your 14-year old self some advice, what would it be?

Work harder. Take a language. Date the nerd.
