        Father’s Day with Seth Meyers

We’re celebrating Father’s Day with one of our favorite dads, Late Night host Seth Meyers, and his too-adorable-for-words son Ashe. Seth talks Father’s Day traditions, changing diapers, and how life will never be the same with baby Ashe in it.

This is your second Father’s Day as a father – do you see any kind of family tradition forming?

Last year we had fried chicken for lunch. If that became a tradition, I’d be very happy.

If Ashe could talk, what would he say is his favorite thing about you?

Good at tickling, decent at changing a diaper, and I passed down some solid blue eye genes.

What surprised you the most about becoming a father?

I’m surprised by how natural it feels. You become a father in an instant, and then can’t remember what it was like before your child was in your life.

What is the most important lesson you learned from your own father?

        Be attentive and present.

Best parenting advice you ever received?

It’s not advice, but I like being around parents with three or more kids. They’ve learned how sturdy children are, and are therefore less stressed-out.

What’s the biggest difference between how you were raised and how you’re raising Ashe?

I was a child of the suburbs and he is a child of New York City. He will be cooler than I have ever been by three and a half.

Best part about being a father?

The amount of times I realize I’ve been smiling for an hour straight.

Five words to describe the way you felt when Ashe was born?

        Everything changes starting this instant.

What has been your proudest moment as a dad thus far?

Is it cheating to say that I’m overwhelmingly proud of how good a mother my wife is?
