Incredible Creatures Ocean Set includes: Hermit Crab o Although you might think the hermit crab is its own species, there are hundreds and hundreds of them! However, most of the hermit crabs that are owned as pets are one of a handful of specific species. o Scientific Name: Superfamily Paguroidea o Characteristics: The name hermit crab is derived from the fact that hermit crabs carry their shells, which are also their homes, on their back. Although this hand painted figurine already has a home of its own, we’re sure it would still love to come back to yours! o Size and Color: 4.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall, this figurine is a bit wider than a deck of cards stood on its side. These creatures can be many different colors, shells especially, and this hermit crab is a pinkish-orange color with a light tan shell. Large Mouth Bass o Also known as the wide mouth bass, bigmouth bass, and the black bass, the largemouth bass is one of the most commonly hunted freshwater fish in the world. Originally endemic to the United States, it is now widely distributed around the planet. o History: Because of its popularity as a game fish, the largemouth bass has been introduced to many different bodies of water around the world. As a result, it has been classified as a highly impactful invasive species. In many regions it either out competes or preys upon the native wildlife. o Scientific Name: Micropterus Salmoides o Characteristics: Largemouth bass are easily distinguished from the similar looking smallmouth bass and spotted bass by the size of their mouth, which extends beyond their eyes. Hand painted and professionally crafted, this figurine is wonderful for an aspiring marine biologist looking to brush up their freshwater fish knowledge! o Size and Color: Largemouth bass are predominantly olive green and have distinctive black spots along their side. Standing 3 inches tall and 6.25 inches long, this model is a bit larger than a soda can resting on its side. Marble Ray o This stingray is known by many names, including Black-blotched Stingray, Black-spotted Stingray, Round Ribbon tail Ray, Speckled Stingray, and - when its coloration is dark with lighter gray and white speckling - the Marble Ray. This large ray can grow up to six feet across and is found in tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. o Scientific Name: Taeniura Meyeni o Characteristics: This hand-painted and highly detailed Marble Ray figure is scientifically accurate, educational, and fun! It’s sculpted with the fronts of its fins raised, meaning it is beginning the undulating motion that will push its body through the water. o Size and Color: At about 5 inches wide, the main body of this figure is slightly larger than a DVD or Blu-Ray disc, with the tail adding an additional 3 inches to the length, making it about 8 inches long. Its base color is a charcoal gray, with white, gray, and tan speckles covering its body. Its underside is a lighter gray, and its eyes are gold. Blue Tang o While the blue tang has an incredibly wide range of habitats, including the reefs of the Philippines, Japan, Australia, Florida, and Africa, it’s not very common. Despite its rarity, this species is well-known around the world among marine enthusiasts, aquarium hobbyists, and people of all ages! o History: The blue tang goes by several different names, including blue barber, blue doctor, blue tang surgeonfish, yellow barber, and yellow doctor fish. Most of these names refer to the extremely sharp spines on the sides of the fish’s tail, which resemble surgeon’s scalpels and are used for self-defense when threatened. As intimidating as this sounds, you have nothing to fear this blue tang would love to be your friend! o Scientific Name: Paracanthurus hepatus o Characteristics: A favorite species among fish lovers everywhere, our blue tang model will make a colorful addition to your collection. Hand-painted for lifelike accuracy, this figurine is fantastic as a learning aid, a toy for fun play, as a gift, or even as a piece of décor for your home or office! o Size and Color: 4.75 inches long and 1.75 inches tall, this figure is about an inch shorter than a soda can placed on its side. The blue tang’s royal blue body, yellow tail, and black designs are sharp, vivid, and among the most iconic of fish colorations in the ocean.
